Almost twenty years ago, I bought a ‘haunted’ mansion in the middle of a Casablanca shantytown, and relocated there from a cramped London flat, with my wife and two small children.
The book I published about the trials and tribulations during our first year, entitled The Caliph’s House, was translated into more than thirty languages, and became an international bestseller.
In the years since, Dar Khalifa, AKA ‘The Caliph’s House’, has been a backdrop of childhood for Ariane and Timur, and has become a crossroads of writers, artists, and adventurers. Most importantly, by writing about it, I have been able to draw attention to the wonderful rich cultural heritage of Morocco.
At last, The Caliph’s House is ready for its next adventure.
